A teen girl and her boyfriend in India were arrested after they killed the girl's 12-year-old brother when the minor boy got to know about their relationship.

The unidentified 18-year-old girl from Lucknow, a city in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, reportedly slit her brother's throat with the help of her boyfriend after the brother threatened to disclose their relationship to the parents, police said.

The deceased boy's parents were away from home when the incident happened. "As the boy's parents had gone to attend a wedding, local residents informed the police about the murder. His sister did not give a satisfactory reply to our queries during the investigation," Ashok Priyadarshi, an investigating officer, was quoted as saying by The Times of India.

The boy's body was discovered near his house on Feb.12. When the cops questioned the teen girl, she initially cooked up a story that a man had barged into their house for robbery. The teenager claimed that the intruder killed her brother when they refused to give them money.

However, police found out that the girl's boyfriend was at the scene by tracing his mobile location and soon zeroed in on the two suspects. They were taken into custody and the girl eventually admitted to the crime, National Herald reported.

Police recovered the sickle wrapped in a blood-stained cloth from the residence. Meanwhile, the charges issued against the suspects are not known.

In a similar incident last year, a minor girl from Vijayapura, a city in the southern Indian state of Karnataka, killed herself after her father caught her with her boyfriend. After the girl's death, the father reportedly killed his daughter's boyfriend by forcing him to drink the same poison the girl consumed.

The investigation began after the boy's family filed a missing person report with the cops and the girl's family complained that she was abducted. Police initially believed that the couple ran away. However, the investigation took a serious turn after they discovered the boy's body in a river. The girl's father confessed to the crime after he was taken into custody but did not reveal where his daughter's body was.
