  • Ter Stegen says 'we'll see' when asked about contract renewal with Barca
  • His contract is due to expire in June 2022
  • Ter Stegen reportedly wants to be included in the same pay scale as Messi

FC Barcelona goalkeeper Marc Andre-Ter Stegen reportedly said "we’ll see" when he was quizzed about his contract renewal talks recently.

Ter Stegen, whose current contract with Barcelona expires in June 2022, is yet to sign an extension and that has led to the player being linked with various clubs, including former Premier League champions Chelsea.

Ter Stegen was caught by a few journalists at the airport when the player was returning from a vacation with his family in Ibiza. When the German shot-stopper was asked about his delayed contract talks, Ter Stegen said he is currently not thinking about his future and added, "we’ll see", Spanish media outlet Mundo Deportivo reported.

Ter Stegen’s reply has further ignited rumors about his possible departure from the Nou Camp side.

Chelsea are fed up with Kepa Arrizabalag, who became the world’s most expensive goalkeeper when he joined "The Blues" for $91 million in 2018. Since the 25-year-old has been making far too many errors these days, Frank Lampard is looking to replace him and it was recently reported that the Chelsea boss has identified Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak and Barcelona’s Ter Stegen as ideal replacements.

Barcelona recently confirmed that they have not received any interest from Chelsea, while the La Liga side also added that Ter Stegen is currently "non-transferable" as he has been their second-most valuable player after captain Lionel Messi on and off the field.

Also, Ter Stegen will not accept a deal if his demands are not met. The German goalkeeper has expressed his desire to continue with the La Liga side, provided Barca acknowledge his importance and offer him a new deal that he deserves. He has been their regular starter in almost every game since his debut in 2014 and has had an impressive record so far.

The 28-year-old goalkeeper reportedly wants to be included in the same pay bracket as captain Messi.
