Tesla Model 3’s performance in drag race has won many admirers. Latest is beating two other sturdy and sophisticated compact cars in a drag race.

The drag race had the goal to select the best speedster from a group of EV, wagon, and a sedan having almost the same engine capacity.

The race to assess the car with the best speed had three performance compact cars to compete.

They come in many forms -- sedans, compact wagons, hatchbacks, and compact electric vehicles. Performance compact cars are another smart group that can produce 400+ horsepower.

The drag race video released by CarWow featured three coveted fast compacts – the Audi RS4 Avant, BMW M3, and the Tesla Model 3 Performance. They were a wagon, sedan, and EV respectively.

What the spec sheets are telling

Knowing their individual strengths is essential in hailing the winner’s worth. The Audi RS4 Avant’s twin-turbo 2.9-liter V6 engine powers the capability to rev up to 444 HP and 443 pound-feet (600 Newton-meter) torque. That power transmits to all four wheels via the Quattro all-wheel-drive system. The RS4 Avant weighs around 1,790 kg.

The BMW M3’s twin-turbo 3.0L produces 425 HP and 406 lb-ft (550 Nm) of torque. But it is lighter than the Audi at, 1647 kg.

The Tesla Model 3 has two motors to power its speed. Under the combined output of 473 HP and 471 lb-ft (639 N-m) torque, the compact EV soars to 60 miles per hour in 3.2 seconds. In terms of weight also, it is the heaviest at 1,847 kg.

As far Tesla Model 3 is concerned, its admirers repose more faith on its instantaneous yet silent acceleration that takes it into a giant form to beat turbo compact cars.

Model 3’s top performance despite no ludicrous mode

Not only the above one, but there are also umpteen reports of jaw-dropping scenes at drag race contests by Tesla's Model 3 Performance version despite the absence of any ‘Ludicrous Mode’,

In another instance, a Tesla Model 3 Performance competed with Tesla Model X P100DL for a few 1/4 mile drag races and Model 3 lost by a nanosecond of 0.1 seconds.

Remember that Model X had the extra advantage of Ludicrous Mode (P100DL) whereas Model 3 is just standard.

Another great result for Model 3 in that drag race was Camaro SS losing the 1/4 mile drag race to the Model 3 Performance by 1.093 seconds. Mind that even a second’s difference is invaluable in a quarter-mile drag race.
