“Titans” finally connected Garfield/Beast Boy to the growing team in last week’s episode. While at an arcade, he met Rachel/Raven and there were definitely some sparks between the two. But what exactly drew Garfield Logan to one of the only other people in the arcade with superpowers? International Business Times asked his portrayer, Ryan Potter.

“I don’t think he sees the grand scheme of everything yet, but he sees an outsider,” Potter told IBT at New York Comic Con earlier this month. “He sees an outlier. He sees somebody that maybe is reminiscent of the family that he’s from, so therefore there is an interest in getting to know her.”

However, Potter added, it certainly didn’t hurt that Raven (Teagan Croft) is a pretty girl. “But, of course, in Garfield Logan, 15-year-old Beast Boy’s eyes, she’s a cute girl, and he snuck out the house and he wants to say hi,” he added.

Their quick moment in episode 3 won’t be their last. In episode 4, “Titans” will show Garfield bringing Rachel to his home, and viewers will get to meet the Doom Patrol and see Garfield’s family.

Their moment last week was certainly one of the lighter ones in the first three episodes of “Titans.” Though the DC Universe drama is an adaptation of the light-hearted “Teen Titans,” it’s a much darker take. It’ll be Garfield bringing those moments of levity to the live-action TV show as he becomes Beast Boy.

“It’s so much fun. When we have those 14-hour, 16-hour, maybe even 18-hour shoot days and people are covered in blood and the set’s dark,” he told a small group of reporters. “I get to be the pain in the [expletive] and just make people smile and make people laugh. We’re going and shooting until 6 in the morning. I maintain the character and just try to brighten the mood. It’s awesome. When Raven and Anna [Diop, who plays Starfire] are together, there’s some chuckles, but when Beast Boy’s introduced, there’s a fuller laugh.”
