  • Steven Bergwijn could reinvigorate sagging football career with a move to Ajax
  • Bergwijn does not appear to be part of Antonio Conte’s plans for Tottenham
  • So far, Bergwijn seems to be better off playing for another team

Steven Bergwijn has been struggling as part of Tottenham and could be better off playing for another team as early as the January transfer window on loan.

One team that is reportedly considering the Dutch winger is Ajax.

Ajax is allegedly checking the status of the 24-year-old player to see if he remains part of the Spurs' future plans, per The Times.

Bergwijn was taken in by former boss Jose Mourinho for £27 million ($33.2 million) in January 2020, but the Dutch winger has been struggling to blend in with new manager Antonio Conte.

So far, Bergwijn has started only three games across all competitions for Tottenham. He saw some action in the match against Norwich, playing just 10 minutes in the 3-0 win.

Regardless, it is possible that Bergwijn may still be trying to get a feel of the Conte system.

With a new manager calling the shots, pundits feel that it is possible that Bergwijn may be in for a rough patch trying to prove to Conte that he deserves a spot on the team.

If his efforts fail to impress the Italian coach, Ajax could provide Bergwijn a chance to start fresh and possibly breathe new life into his sagging football career.

A jump to Johan Cruyff Arena could reward the Dutch winger a chance to win multiple trophies even if it would be on loan.
