KEY POINTS

  • Arsenal is trying to keep Alexandre Lacazette for at least one more season
  • Lacazette has been getting offers from two big clubs outside the Premier League
  • Arsenal is believed to be focusing on strengthening their center-forward line

Unless Arsenal comes up with something, it appears Alexandre Lacazette will be leaving the Emirates Stadium soon.

The French striker has a couple of interested suitors in Olympique Lyonnais and Barcelona, two teams that are bent on securing the services of the 30-year-old player, L’Equipe reported.

However, it appears Arsenal is trying to foil all that.

The Gunners are allegedly ready to offer Lacazette a one-year deal, which would include an option to have him back for another season.

Hence, it may all boil down to what the Frenchman truly wants for his career.

Lacazette has reportedly already had talks with his former employers about a return to Groupama Stadium.

Interest in him was confirmed no less by Jean-Michel Aulas last month in another report from L’Equipe.

If he does not end up with Lyon, a move to Camp Nou also looms.

Such a move would reunite the French national with his former teammate Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Lacazette is not short on options once his current deal ends at the end of the season in North London.

But with Mikel Arteta seemingly hinting at wanting to keep Lacazette at the Emirates Stadium, the alleged short-term deal could just be one option that Arsenal has up their sleeves.

"I think with Alex it's very clear what he brings to the team,” Arteta stated. "He's shown it consistently since I've been here, and what we have to resolve is the contractual timing, in the best possible way, and when we all align on the same page."

One thing that is worth noting is that should Lacazette stay on, he could be utilized as a backup option.

Arsenal is believed to be intent on getting a new center-forward in Darwin Nunez.

The Gunners are said to be keeping tabs on three players to bolster its attack.

Aside from Nunez, other names linked to Arsenal include Victor Osimhen and Armando Borja, the Daily Express reported.

Of those names, Arsenal and the camp of Nunez have allegedly entered negotiations.

The 22-year-old player also fits the recruitment team's policy, which is to continue to sign players under the age of 24.
