KEY POINTS

  • Real Madrid's chase for Erling Haaland is unlikely to succeed
  • Haaland is likely to end up with Manchester City
  • Real Madrid is urged to fill in key spots than making a big splurge on Haaland

Unless Real Madrid can find a way to cough up big money, the chances of seeing Los Blancos acquire Erling Haaland may be wishful thinking.

Real Madrid has been conversing with Borussia Dortmund since last year although it was clear that Die Borussen had no interest in selling.

However, things are expected to change in 2022 with the growing belief that the 21-year-old striker will be moving out of Westfalenstadion.

The actual destination remains unclear, but Real Madrid and Manchester City have been mentioned as potential landing spots.

But based on the latest updates from MadridistaReal and Mario Cortegana, seeing Haaland end up with Real Madrid is not viable.

Moreover, there is no indication that any move towards a potential deal is in the works.

A reason why Los Blancos may not find it viable to pick up Haaland is the money involved. Real Madrid would need around 150 million ($164 million) to land the Norwegian per Joseph Pedrerol.

It should be pointed out that the fee mentioned does not yet include the salary that would be due to Haaland.

The said figures cover only the transfer fee as well as fees going to the father and Haaland’s agents.

Hence, the 21-year-old would have to be paid €25 million ($27.5 million) each year as well.

Given the huge money involved to add Haaland, it comes as no surprise that Real Madrid would prefer to check out other options and fill up needed positions instead.

Although Haaland is undoubtedly a huge talent, signing Haaland may end up delaying those needed spots.

Hence, this may point to Haaland likely ending up with the Sky Blues instead.

Los Blancos would miss out on a big signing, but there are precedents to consider.

Instead, Real Madrid should focus on taking in a center-back, right-back, and possibly a central midfielder instead.

Right now, Los Blancos is reportedly in the lead for Kylian Mbappe’s signature according to multiple outlets.

The 23-year-old’s contract with Paris Saint-Germain will expire at the end of the season.

But similar to Haaland, getting the French forward to sign with Real Madrid will also require huge money on the table.
