  • Wirtz has no release clause in his current contract with Bayer Leverkusen
  • Bayern Munich boss plays coy on a potential Wirtz acquisition
  • Bayer Leverkusen is not closing doors on possibly dealing away Wirtz in the future

The transfer window is over although that will not stop other teams from possibly targeting other young targets of the future.

Florian Wirtz is someone who has been making an impression, but the 18-year-old is years away from a potential transfer.

One reason behind that is that the German midfielder’s contract with Bayer Leverkusen does not include a release clause, ESPN reported.

Aside from that, there is no indication that Bayer Leverkusen is in need of funds. With the success that Wirtz has had with the Bundesliga club, it may take years before any potential deal can gain credence.

Multiple teams reportedly have their eye on Wirtz. At the top of the list is Bayern Munich.

The interest is in the German player is understandable, given his sterling performances in Bundesliga where he scored two goals and issues three assists in three appearances.

Aside from that, Wirtz has also shone brightly for Germany. He made his debut for the national side in September and appeared in all three games during the international break. That included an assist against Armenia.

Wirtz becomes the latest player to capture the eye of teams that have come from Leverkusen, which signed him from FC Cologne in January 2020

Some rumors came out that Wirtz had a release clause for 2023. All this was addressed by Bayer Leverkusen’s Rudi Völler who shot it down, Sport 1 reported.

However, he also explained that this does not discount the fact that they may have to give up players at times similar to the case of Kai Havertz.

“Of course he doesn’t have that,” Völler stated. “But that doesn’t change the fact that we’re a club that has to give up players from time to time. Just like we gave Kai Havertz for a large sum. But that won’t happen with Florian in the next year or two.”

As far as Wirtz's links to Bayern Munich are concerned, sporting director Hasan “Brazzo” Salihamidzic preferred not to touch the matter and instead made a general view on how things would be if the German were playing at the Allianz Arena.

“The boy is a really good player but is a Leverkusen player. I think the German national team will have a lot of fun with him and Musiala in the future,” he said to Sky90 (via @iMiaSanMia).
