  • Callum Hudson-Odoi is wary of his lack of playing time, a report said
  • Frank Lampard said he only has 11 spots and players need to keep fighting and earning their spot
  • Hudson-Odoi will eventually get his chance as long as he trains hard, the Chelsea boss said

Callum Hudson-Odoi has not been getting much action for Chelsea F.C. since the football restart. However, Blues manager Frank Lampard said there is no issue with the 19-year-old winger, explaining that Hudson-Odoi understands there are only limited spots and that players have to keep earning their place.

Hudson-Odoi has played well for the Blues this season, carrying on his run since breaking out under former coach Maurizio Sarri. He has been a regular fixture for Chelsea this season, appearing in 29 games across all competitions for the Blues.

However, tweaks to the lineup saw the English winger playing behind Christian Pulisic and Willian Borges da Silva since football resumed. The change allowed the Blues to win six of their last eight matches, putting them in the top four and giving them a berth in the Champions League.

Despite the player not making the first team, Lampard explained that there is no rift between him and Hudson-Odoi, PA Sport's Nick Purewal reported. For now, he said he believes that the 19-year-old should maintain his level of training.

"I've spoken about Callum a lot, he needs to keep training at the highest level, which is actually what I've seen him doing, particularly in the last week or 10 days," Lampard said (via Yahoo! Sports).

For Lampard, the reason why Hudson-Odoi has not been used in the first team to date is that he only has 11 spots in the starting XI. He reiterated that players need to keep fighting and earning their spot.

When asked if Hudson-Odoi has shown signs of being unhappy over his lack of playing time, Lampard said he saw no indication of that. "But I'd expect all my players to want to play as much as they can," he said.

"So only as much as I'd expect anyone else. I have a squad here to pick, I pick a lot on how players train and daily what they can give us, and if they start or come in games what they give us. So it's the same as every other player," the Blues coach continued.

Not long after Lampard's words, Sky Sports reported that Hudson-Odoi was unhappy with the lack of playing time he has been getting. There have been rumors that this could lead to the English national seeking a move out of Stamford Bridge by the next transfer window.

So far, a potential move has not been discussed by either side.
