KEY POINTS

  • Leicester City sets hefty price tag on James Maddison
  • Arsenal may be forced to target other midfielders
  • Mikel Arteta is looking to give Thomas Partey a much-needed help

James Maddison of Leicester City is someone that Mikel Arteta would love to have at the Emirates Stadium.

Unfortunately, the odds of the Gunners acquiring the midfielder may have been scorned after the Foxes raised their asking fee.

According to The Leicester Mercury, the Foxes have set a stiff £80 million ($110 million) price tag on the 24-year-old footballer.

Given that the Gunners are already strapped for cash, all hopes of possibly seeing Maddison move to Arsenal may have just gone up in smoke.

Maddison would have been a huge addition to Arsenal, which is looking to rebuild their midfield.

However, also worth noting is the fact that the English footballer has shown no indication of leaving the King Power Stadium.

With this development, Arteta and company may just have to move on and skim the transfer market for other midfielders to fill up the void.

But factoring in their financial predicament, Arsenal will have to do so with financial implications in mind.

As mentioned in a previous post, the Gunners are once again contemplating a move for Eduardo Camavinga.

It would be another try for Arsenal although their chances on the 18-year-old do not appear bright.

Manchester United has joined the race for Camavinga, and reports are allegedly already ongoing.

Granit Xhaka is likely to move to AS Roma, while Matteo Guendouzi and Lucas Torreira are exiting the Emirates Stadium.

Among the names mentioned include Yves Bissouma, Ruben Neves and Albert Sambi Lokonga.

Arteta is looking to provide Thomas Partey some help, and those could be sensible addition for the cash-strapped Gunners.

Nieves of Wolverhampton emerged as a name after efforts to get Emi Buendia in the face of Arsenal.

To land the Portuguese player, Arsenal may have to pay roughly £35 million ($48.5 million).

Also raising the chances of the Gunners landing the 24-year-old football player is that the Wanderers are looking to sell off some assets to build up some funds on their targets.

Nieves is technically a work in progress. But given that he is only 24, Arteta could help guide him into becoming a better player and fit in that midfielder void perfectly.
