  • Dean Henderson is allegedly seeking a January transfer from Manchester United
  • Henderson needs to work his way back up to the Red Devils' rotation via Under-23 route
  • David de Gea will continue being Manchester United’s starting goalie for now

Dean Henderson is viewed as one of the rising stars as far as shot-stopping is concerned, and it is his dream to show off that talent at Manchester United.

But all this was before a string of unfortunate events happened. That included missing the early part of the season and then compounded when he tested positive for COVID-19.

Pundits know that being sidelined will be telling, an opportunity for other players to shine.

As far as the Red Devils are concerned, this is the chance that David de Gea got and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is liking it.

With his rank in the pecking order diminishing, there are now claims that the 23-year-old goalkeeper wants a January loan move from Old Trafford.

This is seen as a result of his dreams being crushed as the Red Devils’ primary keeper.

Henderson was speculated to be the first-choice keeper of Solskjaer before those spates of issues came into play.

De Gea has been performing well for Manchester United, including that save on West Ham United’s Mark Noble via penalty kick in an English Premier League duel last Sunday, BBC reported.

The Red Devils are set to face the Hammers once more on Wednesday, September 22, in a Carabao Cup clash.

Tom Heaton is reportedly set to make his debut, depriving Henderson once again of being on the bench.

Henderson recently returned to training and has only seen action in two Under-23 matches. This was against Arsenal and Brighton this month.

It appears that if Henderson wants a spot on the regular team, he will have to work for it again via this route.

“I think David has started really well, it’s just unfortunate for Dean with Covid and of course the illness, but he’s getting better and he’s getting some games,” Solskjaer stated via the team's official website. “Dean will probably play more Under-23s games to just catch up with what he’s lost."

There is no telling how long Henderson will have to toil and prove his worth for the No. 1 spot.

Solskjaer would not be drawn on touching the battle for the position, instead stating that he is pleased with the team’s goalkeeping.

"I won’t say here that I’m going to keep David going or Dean’s going to come in,” the 48-year-old Red Devils manager said.
