KEY POINTS

  • Paris Saint-Germain has earmarked Everton's Richarlison as Kylian Mbappe's replacement
  • Mbappe has been linked to a move away to Real Madrid
  • Richarlison has played with Neymar on Brazil's international team

The summer transfer window is roughly a week away from closing and eyes have turned once again to France.

Paris Saint-Germain was recently approached by Real Madrid with a massive €160 million ($188 million) offer for World Cup winner Kylian Mbappe, but the club opted to decline as they look for a bid around the €200 million ($235 million) region.

But if Mbappe does leave for the Bernabeu, Paris Saint-Germain has earmarked Everton striker Richarlison as his replacement.

It now appears that Paris Saint-Germain’s Neymar has played a part in the club’s decision to target Richarlison as both men have played together with Brazil’s international team.

The 24-year-old Everton striker has been with the Blues since 2018 after they paid a transfer fee of £35 million ($48 million) to Watford.

In 107 appearances for Everton, the Brazilian has scored 34 goals and has since been a key part of the club’s attacking game plan.

Richarlison helped improve his player profile with stellar play at the Copa America and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, where he was a part of Brazil’s gold medal squad.

He is also off to a great start in Everton’s English Premier League season with one goal and one assist thus far.

Transfermarkt places his value at around £50 million ($68.6 million).

Carlo Ancelotti’s departure from Everton has led both Richarlison and James Rodriguez to contemplate their futures at the club, according to The Athletic.

Rodriguez has gone out of his way to get the Everton fans to want him out of the club soon as he was given the green light to talk to other clubs as well, specifically being linked to AC Milan and Atletico Madrid.

Reports also indicate that Paris Saint-Germain has also reached out to Richarlison this early as a pre-emptive move to Mbappe’s departure.

With the transfer window winding down, many have thought that the big-name transfers have already been finished but with recent developments with Mbappe, this might be the last big transfer for this summer.

Richarlison will be joining a Paris Saint-Germain side that shocked the football world by acquiring Lionel Messi from Barcelona, in the hopes of a Neymar-Mbappe-Messi triple threat on the attack.
