  • Real Madrid reportedly made its first approach to Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe
  • PSG declined the initial bid of $188 million and is looking for a bid of around $235 million
  • Mbappe has been on the radar of Real Madrid for a long time

With only a couple of days left remaining in the summer transfer window, clubs are making a mad dash for their transfer targets, including Real Madrid.

The La Liga giants have been retooling for much of the summer and they are reportedly eyeing Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe as their crowning achievement.

Mario Cartagena of Goal reported that Real Madrid has officially submitted its first bid for the Mbappe.

Despite Real Madrid still reeling from the financial setbacks of the COVID-19, the club feels like this is their best shot at netting Mbappe’s services as they are expecting tough competition next summer when his contract ends.

The Frenchman reportedly wants out of last year’s Ligue 1 runner-ups and has been pining for a move to the Bernabeu.

Cartagena’s report also mentions that Mbappe has turned down “no fewer than six contract renewal offers" with Paris Saint-Germain and that any personal agreements with Real Madrid can be worked out easily.

Los Blancos’ opening bid for Mbappe is reportedly at €160 million ($188 million) and that Paris Saint-Germain has since turned down the massive bid, according to transfer whisperer Fabrizio Romano and French journalist Julien Laurens.

Sources in France believe that Real Madrid will need to increase their bid to €200 million ($235 million) to force Paris Saint-Germain’s hand.

Mbappe has been on Real Madrid’s radar for a long time, and they believe that now is the best time to strike as both clubs do have good relations with each other.

To Real Madrid’s credit, they are more than prepared to make the signing as they have held off on signing first-team quality talent since 2019, and the summer sales of Raphael Varane for €41 million ($48.1 million) and Martin Odegaard for €40 million ($47 million) have helped them prepare for this.

For Paris Saint-Germain, trying to get the most out of Mbappe this summer will only make things harder for them in the long run.

As long as Mbappe does not agree on an extension with Paris Saint-Germain soon, which is most likely to happen, Real Madrid’s chances of signing him are very much within the realm of possibility.
