KEY POINTS

  • Antonio Conte is conversing with Arturo Vidal for a potential reunion at Tottenham
  • Vidal is seen as a short-term fix if Conte succeeds in signing the Chilean
  • Vidal is looking to join a team where he can still be of use

Tottenham boss Antonio Conte has reportedly been in touch with Arturo Vidal of Inter Milan for a possible move to North London as early as the January transfer window.

The Chilean midfielder is leaving his options open, with his stint at San Siro not exactly panning out.

The 34-year-old footballer is a known name in the sport although he could be a short-term fix for the Spurs.

Vidal has fallen down the pecking order over at Inter Milan, something that may further bolster a move to Tottenham.

Moreover, he has not started in a single Serie A match this season and has only been put twice in the starting lineup for the UEFA Champions League.

Conte is far from satisfied with the crew that he has right now, and adding someone in the caliber of Vidal could help even if it is on a short-term lease.

Regardless, the Italian has allegedly discussed a potential move to England with Vidal, La Tercera reported.

Further backing that up is the fact that Conte and Vidal worked together with Inter Milan and Juventus.

They won a pair of Serie A titles, and if there is anyone who can use the Chilean wisely, it would be Conte.

The fact that Vidal is a proven name could alter the fortunes of the Hotspurs. Among his accolades as of this writing include 12 league titles, including three Bundesliga trophies.

These accomplishments were made when the Chilean had spells with Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Juventus.

In addition, He has had success with Chile, winning 131 caps.

But for Conte to succeed in acquiring Vidal, there are money matters on the table.

In his career, he has accumulated more than £67 million ($89 million) in transfer fees according to Transfermarkt.

His most expensive move came when he swapped Italy for Germany to join Bayern Munich for more than £35 million ($46 million).

It remains unclear how much it would take for Tottenham to pull off a deal for the veteran midfielder.

The Spurs have promising young players such as Oliver Skipp. If Vidal is acquired, he could help guide the 21-year-old English midfielder as well as other upstarts on the Tottenham side.
