Police brutality has once again become a hot topic of debate after the death of George Floyd in the U.S. Several notable personalities have spoken about the instances of police violence against protestors in various states of the country.

The latest celebrity to jump on the bandwagon is talk show host Trevor Noah. While hosting an episode of “The Daily Show” from his home, the 36-year-old stand-up comedian criticized the law enforcement authorities for committing “even more police brutality” on the protestors after videos of such instances went viral on social media. Noah started his show by saying that a lot of people have been comparing the recent protests to the “civil rights movement.”

The host further stated that police have not been able to tackle the situation properly and dealt with calls of ending the police brutality with even more police brutality.

“With all these protests sweeping across America, people have been comparing this moment to the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s. And much like the 1960s, law enforcement officers have met these calls to end police brutality with even more police brutality,” Noah said.

Later on the show, Noah explained that he was really shocked to know that the police officers are using excruciating equipment on protestors that are actually used to fight off terrorists. He also shared that the videos were really disturbing to watch because Americans are just expressing disappointment over the death of Floyd by using their “right to protest.”

“Just take a moment to think about that. The police department got this heavy-duty equipment to fight terrorists, that is why they got these equipment post 9/11. And now, they are using it against the Americans who are just exercising their right to protest,” Noah said.

Noah then talked about an incident that took place in Buffalo where a police officer was seen pushing a 75-year-old man on the sidewalk. The man fell so hard on the ground that blood was seen coming out of his head. Surprisingly no officer went up to check on him and just walked past the injured man.

“I don’t care who you are, but those images have to be upsetting to watch. I don’t care how many times I see that video, I will never get used to it. Because it is bad enough that these cops pushed an old man, but the fact that they walk past him while he is bleeding it out on the sidewalk. Like who are you protecting and serving if not that old man?” Noah said.

After the video of the incident went viral on social media, two officers were suspended without pay while 57 officers offered their resignations to stand in solidarity with the suspended cops.

Noah also tackled the issue of the police shooting rubber bullets on the journalists who were present to cover the protests.

Since the death of Floyd in Minneapolis on May 25, a large number of protests have taken place all across the globe. Apart from the U.S., many people in countries like the U.K., Germany, France, Syria, and New Zealand have filled the streets to support the Black Lives Matter movement.
