Trump Banned Top Media Companies From The White House. Now The TV Pool Won’t Cover Him.

¨The TV press pool won't cover events attended by President Donald Trump after he decided to ban CNN from the White House.

CNN reported that Trump prevented the media company from covering Trump as the designated TV pooler after his announcement last Friday. That development led other members of the rotating pool to make the decision.

Trump said back then that he would ban CNN, MSNOW and Politico from the coverage "as a result of their constant "reporting" FAKE NEWS!"

"Media Outlets shouldn't be able to constantly write or report FICTION and LIES when they're covering the President of the United States, the Trump Administration, or the United States of America," he added, warning that other outlets are set to follow.

There did not seem to be a clear catalyst for the decision. It follow's Trump's decision to keep journalists working for the Associated Press from the Oval Office, Air Force one and other events that are small for a full press corps. The ban followed the outlet's refusal to start referring to the Gulf of Mexico as Gulf of America. The AP filed a suit over the matter, with the case still ongoing.

The three media outlets are set to file a lawsuit against the Trump administration on Monday. In a joint statement, they said they notified the government of its move, aimed at protecting "our First Amendment rights and defend the principle that the government does not decide what the press reports or publishes."

"Without notice or process, the White House revoked our journalists' credentials because it objected to our reporting," the statement continued. "Left unchallenged, this threatens press freedom and the public's right to independent journalism free from government interference," the statement adds.

The White House has not reacted to the announcement, but Trump said in a social media post on Monday that "The White House is not instituting an assault on the Free Press, something which I cherish. It is instituting an assault on the FAKE NEWS, something that has grown like Cancer in our beloved United States of America. It is corrupt, purposeful, pervasive, fully coordinated, and totally out of control. It is a threat to our National Security, and must be stopped."
