While the Democrats were slugging it out at a drawn out three hour debate on Thursday, President Trump spent his time at a Republican retreat dinner blaming light bulbs for making him look orange, something which he has been ridiculed for in the past.

While the President accepted that he was orange, he blamed it on the energy-efficient light bulbs that made him look so. His comment was greeted with laughter by members who attended the 2019 House Republican Conference Member Retreat Dinner.

"People said what's with the light bulb? I said here’s the story, and I looked at it: The bulb that we're being forced to use — No. 1, to me, most importantly, the light's no good," Trump said during a speech at the dinner.

“I always look orange. And so do you. The light is the worst.”

The president said that the previous incandescent bulbs were better as it was not hazardous like the energy efficient bulbs.

“... it's many times more expensive than that old incandescent bulb that worked very well. And very importantly—I don't know if you know this—they have warnings. If it breaks it's considered a hazardous waste site. It's gasses inside,” he said.

However the Department of Energy guidelines state that energy efficient light bulbs used 25%-80% less energy, saving a person close to $75 every year. The bulbs also lasted atleast 3 times and at the most 25 times more than earlier incandescent bulbs.

The energy department also added that the energy efficient bulbs can easily be disposed and recycled unlike the incandescent ones.

"All fluorescent lights contain small amounts of mercury. Some CFLs with magnetic ballasts contain small amounts of short-lived radioactive material. Because of these hazardous materials, you should not toss burned-out lamps into the trash," they stated.

The Trump administration had earlier this month eliminated an environment friendly policy as it rolled back the energy regulations that were put in place by the previous two administrations.

As per the changes the stricter energy efficiency standards to which the light bulbs in the U.S had to comply, were repealed and cancelled. Environmental activists have argued that it will lead to more electricity being generated through green house gas emitting power plants and higher utility bills for the Americans.
