  • House minority leader Kevin McCarthy claims Nancy Pelosi withheld the articles of impeachment to boost the bid of her favored candidate, Joe Biden

The "good Republican," House minority leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), is sowing division among Democrats, this time claiming House majority leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) aims to ensure the defeat of non-Democrat Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) in the Democratic Party primaries.

This supporter of president Donald Trump went on an extended monologue Tuesday to drive home his point Pelosi still dislikes Sanders enough to not want him to become the party's presidential nominee. His latest anti-Democrat conspiracy theory says Pelosi withheld the articles of impeachment from the Senate not to get Senate Republicans to hold an impartial impeachment trial but to hurt Sanders and other Democrat senators gunning for the party's nomination. She did this to boost the bid of her man, former vice president Joe Biden.

McCarthy alleges Pelosi is intentionally "clearing the decks for Joe Biden" and "keeping Bernie Sanders at bay." He calls these alleged actions by Pelosi her "dirty little secret."

"Within her own leadership, there were questions about why she held (the articles)," McCarthy said during a press conference. "But if there's anyone who gained from this, it'd be anybody who's running for president that's not in the U.S. Senate. With Iowa quickly upon us in early February, those four senators who are running for president will now no longer have a voice."

"Iowa caucus is on Feb 3. Bernie Sanders is in first place. What this does is, this benefits Joe Biden," McCarthy also said in a Sunday interview with Fox News.

McCarthy expanded his attempt to divide Democrats by urging Biden to suspend his campaign while the Democratic Party's other presidential candidates return to Washington, D.C., to participate in the upcoming impeachment trial set to start Jan. 21.

"The only rightful thing of Joe Biden is to make a pledge not to campaign while Bernie Sanders cannot -- after what the Democratic National Committee had done to his campaign a few short years ago," he said to reporters.

He resurrected the controversy over Democrat superdelegates in the 2016 campaign that cost Sanders his shot at the nomination. He claims Sanders would have had a fair shot at the 2020 nomination due to a rules change.

"I know what happened four years ago," said McCarthy. "Something no one thought would. That the head of a complete party of the Democrat National Committee resigning the day before, actually the night before, the nominating convention. Why? Because emails came out to show that one of the main campaigners, Sen. Bernie Sanders, was cheated."

This time, however, McCarthy claims Pelosi's actions on impeachment have sabotaged Sanders and stymied his campaign.

He says the "true political nature of why" Pelosi withheld the impeachment articles is "to harm one campaign and give a benefit to another."
