President Donald Trump on Thursday offered his regards to Breonna Taylor’s family a day after a Kentucky grand jury refused to indict officers directly related to her death.

During a news conference at the White House, the president said the situation surrounding the victim’s death was a “sad thing.” When asked what his message was to her family, Trump said: “I think it’s a sad thing and I give my regards to the family of Breonna. I also think it’s so sad what is happening, everything about that case including law enforcement.”

“So many people suffering, so many people needlessly suffering. But with respect to Breonna, we give our regards to her family,” he added, as reported by The Hill. The president, however, did not comment on the grand jury's decision not to indict the officers.

On Wednesday, Kentucky prosecutors announced that the grand jury had chosen to charge only one of the three Louisville police officers involved in the botched raid in March that led to the death of 26-year-old Taylor. The officer faces three counts of “wanton endangerment,” the lowest of the four classes of felonies in Kentucky, with a maximum sentence of five years and minimum of one year, CNN reported.

Officials also announced that the grand jury declined to file charges against two other officers directly related to the victim’s death.

Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden urged protesters to keep their demonstrations peaceful as many people organized gatherings to demand justice for Taylor following the decision. Speaking at a tarmac in North Carolina, the former vice president encouraged people not to “sully her memory” by engaging in violence.

“She wouldn’t want it, nor would her mother, so I hope they do that,” Biden said.

On Wednesday, President Trump heaped praises on Attorney General Daniel Cameron during an evening news conference. He called the Kentucky AG a “star” and said he was doing a “fantastic job,” WLKY reported.

He also said Cameron delivered a “terrific statement” where the AG said that justice “does not conform to shifting standards” or “fit the mold of public opinion.”

“Justice is not often easy. It does not fit the mold of public opinion and it does not conform to shifting standards. It answers only to the facts and to the law. If we simply act on emotion or outrage, there is no justice. Mob justice is not justice. Justice sought by violence is not justice. It just becomes revenge,” the statement read.
