Days after photos of actress Jennifer Garner driving her estranged husband Ben Affleck to rehab surfaced, a number of rumors regarding their relationship hit the news. One of them was Garner warning Affleck about the motives of his former girlfriend Lindsay Shookus — a rumor that has since been debunked by Gossip Cop.

The rumor was started by a Life & Style article titled “Jen Warns Ben: Lindsay’s Gonna Trap You,” which began by addressing a huge fight that the former couple reportedly had earlier this month, following rumors that Shookus might be pregnant with Affleck’s child.

“They got into a huge fight. One of Jen’s biggest fears is that Lindsay is going to trap Ben, but he refuses to listen,” the publication quoted a “source” as saying. “Ben thinks she’s just jealous. And though they may just be rumors, Jen’s not about to let Lindsay get in the way of what’s rightfully hers.”

By “rightfully hers” the tipster apparently meant the financial settlement that Garner was supposed to receive for her and the couple’s kids from Affleck.

“Jen will never forgive Lindsay for stealing her husband, and knowing that she’s living in the lap of luxury at Ben’s expense must be downright infuriating,” the source added.

It is important to begin by noting that TMZ reported Saturday that the estranged couple finally reached a property settlement in their divorce proceeding, three years after filing papers for the same, which meant there was no reason for Garner to get jealous of Shookus’ intentions anymore.

The reason it took the “Daredevil” stars so long to reach a financial settlement was that they did not have a prenup and simply shared their earnings throughout their 12-year-long marriage.

Also, according to Gossip Cop, it did not make much sense for Garner to ponder about Shookus treating Affleck as a “meal ticket,” as both her estranged husband and the “Saturday Night Live” producer called off their affair weeks ago.

One of the reasons for Affleck and Shookus’ split was reported to be his alcoholism, something that the latter would not have bothered caring about if she was really in the relationship for the money.

“Lindsay had been supporting Ben’s sobriety and going to meetings with him. She had him in meditation and they were doing it together,” a source close to the former couple told People Magazine. “His recovery was something that was very important to both of them.”

“It was very hard for her to break up with Ben, but she knew he wasn’t getting better and that it was time for her to step aside,” the source added. “She was trying to stay as close to him as possible so that he would stay on the right path, but ultimately it just wasn’t possible. She knew she had to let him hit bottom.”

It was also reported that Affleck wanted to check himself back into rehab even before their breakup — something he finally did with the help of Garner last week.
