Tom Cruise quitting Scientology for daughter Suri Cruise was hailed the biggest debunked rumor about the "Mission Impossible" star this year.

Cruise, his daughter Suri and ex-wife Katie Holmes were constantly mentioned in tabloids and gossip outlets this year. And one of the most talked-about rumors about the "Top Gun" star came from a January report claiming he was leaving the controversial religion to reunite with his estranged daughter. Gossip Cop has already debunked this rumor.

Early this year, Star magazine released a story claiming that Cruise wanted to repair his relationship with Suri, who was 11 years old at the time, so he was planning on cutting ties with Scientology. Cruise reportedly hadn't seen Suri in years, and if he wanted to reconnect with her, he would have to leave the church.

"Leaving Scientology would be the toughest decision he’ll ever have to make," an unnamed source told the tabloid.

Star magazine's questionable tipster went on to claim that Cruise was scared that the church would target him if he broke ties with them, but he hoped they would leave him alone if he promised to never speak against Scientology. "If Scientology declared open season on Tom, they could bury him," the source claimed.

However, there is absolutely no truth to the claims in this Star magazine report. A source close to the situation told Gossip Cop in January that Cruise, who has been a committed member of the church for over 30 years, is still with Scientology and has no plans to quit. Time has only proven this to be correct as Cruise even bought a condo in Clearwater, Florida in July. His new place is just one block from the international headquarters of the Church of Scientology.

Cruise apparently sold his Beverly Hills mansion prior to buying the penthouse apartment and had been busy renovating his new two-story condo, People reported. Connor, the actor's 23-year-old son, also lives in the same area, along with other members of Cruise's family.

On the other hand, Suri resides in New York City with her mom, who has primary custody of her.

This isn't the only rumor about Cruise and Suri reuniting that surfaced this year. Just this month, Gossip Cop also debunked a rumor that Cruise was taking his daughter away from Holmes for the holidays to reconnect with her.
