  • People's Sexiest Man Alive for 2021 is Paul Rudd
  • The announcement came days after a report claimed Chris Evans landed the title this year
  • Social media users expressed their approval for People's decision to put Rudd on this year's cover

Paul Rudd has been crowned People's Sexiest Man Alive 2021, much to the dismay of Chris Evans' fans.

While New York Post's Page Six reported last week that Evans landed People magazine's coveted Sexiest Man Alive cover, Stephen Colbert revealed on Tuesday night's episode of "The Late Show With Stephen Colbert" that the "Ant-Man and the Wasp" actor was the Marvel star who was awarded the title.

Colbert noted how this year's guesses ranged from Evans to Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, before finally announcing Rudd as this year's Sexiest Man Alive.

Fans immediately took to Twitter to congratulate Rudd and express their approval for People's decision to put him on this year's cover.

"Paul Rudd is an immortal mystic or an actual Highlander. I wonder how many heads Paul Rudd has collected? Are he and Jared Leto destined to battle? There can be only one," one commented.

"He wins every year in my book," another fan wrote.

"Finally, a choice I agree with," a third added.

Some of Evans' fans were disappointed that the "Captain America" star didn't get the title but still celebrated the 52-year-old's win.

"People were saying that Chris Evans was named People's Sexiest Man Alive and I was like, 'Yes!' But they were wrong and Paul Rudd is… [To be honest], I’m not mad at it," one person wrote.

"If someone will defeat Chris Evans as the sexiest man alive, I humbly honor Paul Rudd as the only one who deserves it!" another wrote.

Last week, Page Six claimed to have learned from "multiple sources" that this year's Sexiest Man Alive would be Evans, with unnamed insiders saying that he was supposed to take the mantle last year but bosses delayed it after he accidentally uploaded a picture of his penis online in September 2020.

At the time, Evans' fans were ecstatic, with some even asking why it took so long for the magazine to put the "Gifted" actor on its Sexiest Man Alive cover.

Meanwhile, Rudd's win follows fellow Marvel star Michael B. Jordan, who received the honor last year.

In his interview with People, Rudd said he is finding it hard to accept the title, explaining that there were many men who deserved the honor.

"I do have an awareness, enough to know that when people hear that I'd be picked for this, they would say, 'What?'" he told the outlet. "This is not false humility. There are so many people that should get this before me."

According to the actor, his wife of 18 years, Julie, 53, was "stupefied" when he informed her of his win. "She was very sweet about it," Rudd shared. "After some giggling and shock, she said 'Oh, they got it right.' And that was very sweet. She was probably not telling the truth, but what's she going to say?"
