Meghan Markle and Prince Harry changed the royal family after they left the British royalty to live in the United States, according to a report.

Last year, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced that they would be stepping back from their royal duties. Prince Harry and Markle left their lives in the U.K. to settle down in the United States and they have no regrets over their decision.

"Meghan and Harry took a huge leap of faith to embark on their new life," a source told People.

The move reshaped the royal family and the monarchy, the outlet noted in its report. Prince Harry, 36, who was treated as Prince William's "spare" just like Queen Elizabeth II's sister, Princess Margaret, "finally found a solution," said royal historian Robert Lacey.

"Which is essentially to get out and start a new life. To stay in the royal system is to go along with subservience to those more senior than you. He has asserted his own identity," he added.

Prince Harry and Markle considered themselves in a "progressive new role" when they talked about the changes in their lives. The source close to the couple said they finally realized their dream.

"It was always their dream to be financially independent and pay their own way," the insider added. "The year started out with a lot of excitement and anticipation. Harry was finally doing what he’d wanted to do for years, and to have Meghan and [19-month-old son] Archie with him was all he could have asked for."

However, Twitter users disagreed that the Sussexes changed the royal family with their departure. For them, the British royal family has remained the same even after their move to the United States.

"They are trying to convince themselves that they were a 'force that changed'. But in fact the RF remains the same. I would find it progressive if they abandoned the titles and in fact lived independently," one commented on the report.

"They're not even on real speaking terms with most of their relatives. So how exactly did they change anything? Answer: They didn't. They just used the royal name to make money," a second user added.

"Another PR Sussex propaganda. The Royal Family is strong & happily moving on without them. The RF rejected the Sussexes demands that’s why abandoned the UK & their Royal duties. Looks like the Queen declined the Megxit extension too. Tell the truth for once!!! It’s common sense," a third user wrote.

Meanwhile, another source said Prince Harry and Markle have no regrets about their decision to leave the royal family. The royal couple reportedly "feel rewarded from their work."
