UFC 136 Main Event Resuts: Edgar Takes Out Maynard in Less Than 4 Minutes

Frankie Edgar put a fourth-round stoppage on Gray Maynard Saturday night at the Toyota Center in the UFC 136 main event, which allowed the lightweight champion to settle the score with the only man to ever have defeated him.

Maybe I wanted to make it exciting, who knows, Edgar told UFC.com. He lost to Maynard in 2008 and drew a match in January.

Maynard came out swinging, not making much contact at first. Edgar managed to throw in some fast strikes and moved in quickly for the beating. Maynard got in with an uppercut, leaving Edgar a little wobbly, adding similar blows accompanied by knee strikes. In round three, Edgar managed to land some harder shots, putting Maynard in some trouble. Edgar continued laying on the strikes on Maynard early in round four, and eventually hit him with a right uppercut, sending Maynard staggered to the fence. The blows kept coming, sending Maynard to the mat. The fight stopped at 3:54 of the round.

Edgar earned the belt and a Fight of the Night award of $75,000.
