Conor McGregor has his eye on the future after his UFC 257 bout against Dustin Poirier this weekend. But what if he loses the rematch with his American rival on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi?

UFC president Dana White hasn't thought of the scenario of McGregor losing to Poirier yet but acknowledges that plans for the Irish superstar will remain intact.

"Nothing happens," the head honcho told TMZ Sport. "People lose man. It happens. It’s part of the sport. If he loses, he goes back to the drawing board and comes back and fights another day."

Though White's primary target is to stage the rematch between McGregor and current lightweight kingpin Khabib Nurmagomedov later this year, the promoter stressed that he does not mind if he has to pit the Russian champion versus other contenders in the division.

White argued that Nurmagomedov has a long list of options, citing UFC newcomer Michael Chandler who takes on Dan Hooker in the co-headliner of Saturday's extravaganza.

“Charles Olivera just came off an incredible win over Tony Ferguson. You got Poirier and McGregor fighting on Saturday, and the co-main event is No.6-ranked Dan Hooker versus Michael Chandler, who is making his debut in the UFC,” he explained.

“This guy (Chandler) has been fighting everywhere outside of the UFC and is one of the all-time greats in the division. He wants to prove himself now in the UFC,” he added. "So, any one of these guys could end up fighting Khabib."
