A UFC heavyweight top contender hopes to be as legendary as Chuck Liddell and Ken Shamrock.

UFC heavyweight star and knockout artist Francis Ngannou revealed his thoughts after meeting Liddell and Shamrock for the first time.

Speaking with MMA Junkie a few days ago, Ngannou admitted that he felt as excited as a fan when he met Liddell and Shamrock.

“It’s very exciting and also very inspiring,” Ngannou said.

The Cameroonian-Frenchman explained that ever since he started doing MMA, he has always looked up to Liddell and Shamrock. Ngannou even expressed his admiration over Liddell and Shamrock’s fame.

He also commended the contributions of the two MMA legends and vowed to continue what they have started.

“I hope we can do the same thing for the next generation,” Ngannou stated.

Ngannou was asked once again about his future in the UFC. According to Ngannou, UFC president Dana White told him that he has to wait for any announcement regarding his plea for a title shot.

As soon as UFC heavyweight champ Stipe Miocic regained his belt at UFC 241 against Daniel Cormier, Ngannou has let the UFC know that he wants next. However, for some reason, the UFC couldn’t book him for the title fight he has been longing for.

“To be honest, I think I should fight the winner, regardless of who won the fight. Since it was Stipe, I think it would be good for me to have my rematch and the title shot,” Ngannou said after Miocic defeated Cormier.

“I see that they are not really clear on the answer of me deserving the title shot or where I’m fighting next,” Ngannou added.

Ngannou gained popularity in UFC after impressive knockout wins over UFC’s greatest heavyweights. His most recent knockout win happened at UFC on ESPN 3 where he finished former UFC champ Junior “Cigano” Dos Santos.

After defeating Dos Santos, Ngannou is convinced that nobody in the division deserves to fight for the title but him.

However, Dos Santos felt like he deserves an instant rematch with Ngannou. Earlier this month, Dos Santos told Combate that his goal is to defeat Ngannou and then fight Miocic for the title once again, Bloody Elbow reported.

“I want to fight. My intention is to come back as soon as possible. My main goal right now is to have a rematch with Ngannou as soon as possible, and then a third fight with Miocic,” Dos Santos said.
