The UFC has plenty of reason to celebrate with Dustin Poirier now emerging as the interim lightweight division champion. But for president Dana White, more needs to be done and this includes re-inserting the top names such as Conor McGregor and/or Tony Ferguson.

As most know by now, Poirier breathed life back into the dipping UFC promotion when he stopped Max Holloway to win the interim title, MMA Mania reported. But with the no. 2 and no. 3 ranked fighters in the division out of the picture, White needs to do some legwork to get the UFC wheels in motion. And that all starts with his critical meeting with the Notorious who remains technically retired as of this writing.

There is no timeline set on when White plans to sit down with McGregor. But making things worst is perhaps his lack of confidence even if talks push through. He revealed how both were supposed to sit down and talk at Fort Lauderdale but it appears that the whole thing has been rescheduled and take place in Los Angeles instead according to another report from MMA Mania.

Hence, there is no assurance that things will go well if ever White and McGregor do meet. The chances of seeing something positive come out of it may not be that high, possibly a sign that the UFC president best focus on Ferguson. Unfortunately, that may take some time with the 35-year-old still unready. El Cucuy continues to deal with personal issues. Back in March, his wife filed a restraining order claiming that Fergusson has been acting mentally unstable around his family, the Bloody Elbow reported.

Of the two, it is obvious that McGregor returning is more plausible. And if his recent social media rant is any indication, it could be happening soon. It seems that the Irishman was teasing something about fighting once again and that the best place for it to happen would be on a pay-per-view, the Bleacher Report noted.

As most had expected, this latest rant goes against McGregor’s initial plan to retire. Most felt it was nothing more than a spur of the moment thing and it appears that it is the case right now.

McGregor last entered the cage against Khabib Nurmagomedov at a chaotic UFC 229 in October 2018. Things have not exactly run smoothly from there although things could be looking brighter over the horizon soon for both The Notorious and the UFC.
