KEY POINTS

  • Georges St-Pierre could be preparing for a UFC return
  • Khabib Nurmagomedov's rumored return fight was branded "fake news" by his handler
  • St-Pierre and Nurmagomedov could change their minds and fight again

On record, Georges St-Pierre is officially retired. However, it remains that anything can happen in the mixed martial arts (MMA) world--with most treating age as just a number.

In the case of the Canadian superstar, there are rumblings that he could be making a cage return and the opponent may possibly be Khabib Nurmagomedov.

For those following the MMA scene, there have been suggestions of possibly pitting St-Pierre against Nurmagomedov, someone who is also retired ironically.

Regardless, not all are buying Nurmagomedov’s retirement claim and a return to action could happen at some point.

Worth noting here is that both Nurmagomedov and St-Pierre have shot down the idea of possibly fighting each other.

However, it is also a fact that both are not closing the door of possibly fighting again in the UFC.

All that may have gotten added flavor after St-Pierre was spotted training like a madman in the snow over in Montreal, calling to mind the Rocky IV montage where Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) was preparing for Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren) in Russia’s cold climate.

St-Pierre calls it perfect weather to train. Hence, suggestions of a fight with the reigning UFC lightweight champion are in the air, TMZ reported.

"Training in a snowstorm today has reminded me of something very important," he said. "There’s nothing like getting out of your comfort zone in order to improve!"

Some light on a potential St-Pierre vs. Nurmagomedov fight may have been shed with retired UFC fighter Kenny Florian claiming that sources inform him that something is brewing on the Anik & Florian podcast.

“I don’t know if it’s confirmed, but it is a fight that St-Pierre might be getting ready for and is preparing for. I don’t think he would be getting ready for that or be telling people that he’s getting ready for a big fight unless it was actually happening," Florian stated.

"And for me, I think the only fight that Khabib Nurmagomedov would come back for is a legend of that kind of stature, a guy who did many of the similar things that he did. And you could kind of bill it as a fight between two of the biggest takedown monsters in UFC history.” he continued.

All these would eventually be branded as fake news by Khabib’s manager Ali Abdelaziz. But then again, this is subject to change and anything can happen–especially if it means making big money.
