  • Gaethje is still deciding on next opponent
  • Gaethje says McGregor now begging on his feet
  • Gaethje may prioritize Khabib Nurmagomedov

Justin Gaethje is now the hot topic in mixed martial arts and the 31-year-old is weighing his options. Gaethje stunned everyone when he dominated Tony Fergusson at UFC 249, winning via technical knockout (TKO) in the fifth round last May 10.

Now, Gaethje has the luxury of picking his next opponent. The logical choice is Khabib Nurmagomedov, the same fighter he replaced at UFC 249. But on cue, other high-profile MMA fighters wanted a piece of the American mixed martial artist. Conor McGregor crashed the scene and has started to ramp up hype to get a crack at Gaethje.

Right now, the tables have been turned on the Irishman. It wasn't too long ago that Gaethje was chasing him for a fight. McGregor never granted him one and now Gaethje loves the fact that the tables have turned, TMZ reported.

"I wrote him a message like f--king 7 months ago just trying to be his friend. I’ve tried every route," Justin said.

True enough, McGregor is now trying to bait Gaethje to face him. He has presented himself to face the 31-year-old next, a surprise turn of event considering this was the same guy he never paid attention to in the past.

"Justin, there is no danger in a man that hugs legs, we all know. Try and dance around what the real threat is here all you want. I am going to fucking butcher you. Your teeth. I’m going to put them on a fucking necklace. Speak on my skills as a father? You are fucking dead," McGregor said on social media.

But as far as Gaethje is concerned, he knows he has options. He could opt to next face Nurmagomedov in what he coined a huge fight. He says it will be a showdown between the two best fighters in the world going up against each other in 25 minutes.

With regards to McGregor, it appears he believes it all boils down to timing. For him, McGregor's rants is a sign that he is practically begging for a fight. He attributes it to hard work and his ability to perform. But for now, it appears Gaethje has his eyes on the Eagle, meaning the Irishman will just have to wait.

"Timing is everything. To have Conor on his knees begging for a fight, it’s a testament for the hard work and believing in my ability to show up and perform," Gaethje said.
