Paramedics and doctors miraculously saved an unborn baby, an hour after its heavily pregnant mother was shot dead in Alabama on Wednesday.

According to the statement by Scottsboro Police Department, they received a call about a suspicious vehicle stopped in the roadway at 6:15 a.m., reports New York Post.

"Officers arrived on scene and discovered that both occupants of the vehicle appeared to have suffered fatal gunshot wounds and were deceased. The female victim was eight months pregnant and transported to Highlands Medical Center in an attempt to rescue the unborn child," the statement read.

Through the actions of the first responders and medical staff at Highlands, the child was born and then transported to Huntsville Hospital for further care, the statement read.

The victim has been identified as Amber Michelle Coffman, 35, of Hollywood AL. The suspect is her partner, Owen Deanglo Williamson, 33, of Hollywood AL.

According to the police, the preliminary investigation indicates that this is a case of murder-suicide but the motive is not known.

Scottsboro Police Capt. Erik Dohring said the first responders “acted very quickly” and rushed Coffman to the hospital. He, however, added that Hollywood police had no reports of domestic violence about the pair.

"They made the immediate call to begin measures to maintain blood flow and oxygen,” said Scottsboro Fire Chief Gene Necklaus.

Meanwhile, the newborn remains listed in critical condition. A report by AL. com said the baby boy, weighing four pounds, was delivered less than an hour after the discovery.

New York Post said Coffman had posted in her Facebook, hours before the tragedy happened. "Without questions … please pray for our family,” it read. Williamson too had taken to Facebook last month to post a picture of Coffman's belly to share the excitement.

In a similar incident, doctors were able to successfully cut a baby boy out of the womb alive after his mother, an eight-month-pregnant woman, was fatally shot. The incident happened last year in Ohio. The victim, Dominique Lee, 28, was reportedly not the intended target of the shooting but an innocent bystander. A man who accompanied Lee was allegedly the target but he escaped unharmed.
