Universal Studios Hollywood is following Disneyland's lead amid the pandemic. The Los Angeles theme park has announced a reopening date of April 16, but for California residents only.

Tickets to the park will be available for purchase starting on April 8. Guests will need to make reservations for the days they want to enter the park due to capacity restrictions at 25%.

For those with annual and season passes, they’ll be able to return to the park a day early on April 15, in a new series called “Bonus Days.” There will be surprise dates between April 15 and May 16 where only these ticket holders will be able to enter the theme park, with reservations. After May 16, the passes go back to normal, according to park officials.

If visitors have already purchased tickets prior to April 8, they will have to reserve their time and date to enter.

"We are incredibly thrilled to finally be able to open Universal Studios Hollywood, return team members to work and welcome guests back to enjoy our amazing rides,'' said Karen Irwin, president and chief operating officer of Universal Studios Hollywood. "It has been a very challenging year and we are overjoyed to have arrived at this moment.''

Most of the rides will be open, including “The Secret Life of Pets: Off the Leash!” and “Jurassic World-The Ride,” and face coverings will be required while on the rides. Some rides will be opening at a later date due to government restrictions, Deadline reported.

Universal Studios Hollywood will be checking temperatures of guests and employees before they enter, have limited capacity at the CityWalk venues, be cleaning and disinfecting throughout the day, making sure social distancing guidelines are being followed in the park and on the attractions and offering contactless payment options.

Disneyland and Disney's California Adventure will be opening on April 30. Also in Southern California, Knotts Berry Farm will be reopening in May and Six Flags Magic Mountain will be opening on Thursday, April 1.
