Two CONCACAF rivals square off in a friendly match Tuesday, when the U.S. hosts Mexico at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee.

Both sides are in a bit of a rebuilding stage. Interim coach Dave Sarachan's U.S. squad is coming off a 2-0 defeat to Brazil on Friday in East Rutherford, New Jersey, while fielding a mostly young roster against the likes of superstars Neymar and Robert Firmino.

The youth movement continues Tuesday, as 14 players are 23 years old or younger. Promising starlets like Tim Weah, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Andrija Novakovich are back on the roster, and the three goalkeepers — Alex Bono, Ethan Horvath and Zack Steffen — have just seven combined caps.

Absent from the squad is attacking midfielder Christian Pulisic due to injury. The Yanks also won't have central defender John Brooks and veteran midfielder Michael Bradley.

Mexico, who thumped Uruguay on Friday, 4-1, will have some familiar names on the roster. But midfielder Jonathan dos Santos, who plays on the LA Galaxy, and striker Raul Jimenez, who is on loan at Wolverhampton, lead a mostly youthful El Tri squad.

Interim head coach Ricardo “Tuca” Ferretti brings a group that includes 20-year-old defenders Edson Alvarez, Jesus Angulo and Gerardo Arteaga. There are two teenagers in the midfield: Jonathan Gonzalez (19) and Diego Lainez (18).

The USMNT has a poor all-time record against Mexico: 19-37-14.

Probable Lineups

USA (4-1-4-1)

G: Steffen

D: Yedlin, Carter-Vickers, Miazga, Robinson

DM: Trapp

M: Weah, Adams, McKennie, Green

F: Wood

Mexico (4-2-3-1)

G: Gonzalez

D: Abella, Ayala, Alvarez, Arteaga

DM: dos Santos, Pineda

M: Guzman, Alvarado, Aguirre

F: Jimenez

Prediction: Don't expect too many fireworks, as both clubs aren't fielding their best squads. The U.S. should score at least one goal because of a heavy emphasis on their attack. Mexico has plenty of players looking to prove themselves, so don't expect them to walk away from the match with a loss. It should be an uneven game with both sides showing flashes of quality play from young talent.
