The World Artistic Gymnastics Championships get underway Saturday from Liverpool Arena in Liverpool, England.

The men's and women's competition is a qualification event for the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris. The three women's and three men's team medal-winning squads earn team berths.

Women's qualification begins on Saturday. The U.S., which has won the past five championships, recently named their five-woman roster, with U.S. champion Konnor McClain left off due to a back injury.

  • Skye Blakely, Frisco, Texas
  • Jade Carey, Phoenix, Arizona; Oregon State University
  • Jordan Chiles, Spring, Texas
  • Shilese Jones, Auburn, Washington
  • Leanne Wong, Overland Park, Kansas; University of Florida
  • Lexi Zeiss, Omaha, Nebraska (replacement athlete)

Wong and Carey have previously competed at a world championships, while the rest of the roster will be making their debut in the competition. Chiles, 21, was on the silver-medal squad at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

Jones may be a key member of the squad. The 20-year-old, who had mulled quitting the sport, won the all-around at a selection camp. Jones posted the top score of 57.200 at nationals with a stellar effort on the uneven bars.

Brazil, China and Great Britain are considered the top contenders to challenge the U.S.

Other countries competing include Belgium, Spain, South Korea, Ukraine, Sweden, Australia, Hungary, Canada, Mexico, France, Finland, Netherlands, Japan, Argentina, Germany, Italy, Chinese Taipei, Egypt, and Austria.

USA Gymnastics will be streaming the entire event live, and live updates will be provided by Olympics.com.
