While most headlines in the past few days have been about concern about the spread of the coronavirus COVID-19, Vanessa Hudgens decided to share a more positive message on social media. The actress and singer spread awareness on World Down Syndrome Day by connecting with a friend.

In a recent Instagram post, Hudgens acknowledged that the world is going through an “incredibly difficult” time at the moment. She added that the best way to get through the challenge is to self-isolate and connect with “people you love.”

The person that Hudgens decided to connect with on World Down Syndrome Day was her friend Megan Bomgaars, who was on the Emmy winning docuseries “Born This Way.”

Hudgens said in her post that she met Bomgaars through the organization Best Buddies. The actress said that her friend makes her smile and that she is proud of her friend.

“She has the best sense of humor and is such a beautiful person inside and out,” Hudgens said about Bomgaars. The actress encouraged her fans to reach out to those who have been “bright lights” in their lives, even if the connection is through something as simple as a text message.

Hudgens was in a controversy recently, when she made comments about the coronavirus victims that seemed to show her being insensitive. The actress had said that the deaths of people after being infected is “terrible” but “inevitable,” Screen Rant reported.

The comment and the backlash forced Hudgens to issue an apology on social media. In her video, the actress said that her previous comments about deaths were taken out of context and she appealed to her fans to stay indoors to stop the spread.

Chrissy Teigen came to Hudgens defense on social media after the latter’s controversial comments, People reported. Teigen pointed out that famous people, just like regular folk, say stupid things sometimes. She added that such things shouldn’t ruin people’s lives and instead the celebrities should be given a chance to learn from their mistakes.
