When “The Voice” Season 15 premieres this fall, viewers will be in for quite a surprise once they realize their favorite contestant could get knocked out of the top 13 by an aspiring singer who hasn’t even competed on the actual show.

Just weeks ahead of the Blind Auditions, NBC revealed there will be a new twist in the popular singing competition that will affect Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson and Jennifer Hudson, who will act as judges and mentors to the main contestants this season.

In the latest curveball, the network announced Kelsea Ballerini will appear on “The Voice” Season 15 as a fifth judge. However, the country crooner will appear on a digital companion series known as the “Comeback Stage,” where she will coach aspiring contestants.

The digital series will follow six singers who failed to impress the four main judges during the Blind Auditions but will be given a second chance to enter the competition with the help of Ballerini, according to Entertainment Tonight.

On “Comeback Stage,” the “I Hate Love Songs” singer will counsel the hopeful artists and judge them as they compete in battle rounds against one another. In November, one singer may be lucky enough to re-enter the competition by snagging a spot in the top 13 and getting the opportunity to compete for the coveted title of “The Voice.”

“Comeback Stage,” which will premiere the same night as Season 15, will be available for viewing on NBC.com, Instagram TV, YouTube, The Voice app and Facebook.

Ballerini first announced the big news on Monday by sharing an Instagram post of herself posing in front of the “V” logo.

“Y’all, I have been SO excited to share that I’m joining the @nbcthevoice family this fall as the 5th coach for the first ever ‘Comeback Stage.’ It’s been such a new, fulfilling challenge and I’ve been beyond inspired by the artists I’ve gotten to meet and work with. I can’t wait for you to fall in love with them,” she wrote.

“The Voice” Season 15 will premiere Monday, Sept. 24 at 8 p.m. EDT on NBC.
