"The Walking Dead" Season 10 finale will be followed by six additional episodes that will have an anthological feel to them.

The AMC zombie apocalypse drama’s executive producer and showrunner Angela Kang said the additional six episodes will focus on short stories that will give viewers a glimpse into the survivors’ mindsets following the war with Whisperers, which will be featured in "The Walking Dead" Season 10 finale.

"The episodes are all designed to be filmed safely during this pandemic that we're in," Kang said during the "Walking Dead Universe Preview Special" (via Comicbook.com). "There's sort of an anthological feel to some of them. They're really deep dives into our characters, which I hope people enjoy."

"We've been enjoying working on something that's a little bit different from what we were doing in the main part of Season 10," she said. "We just get to feature different people and tell these little stories that all kind of add up to a picture of what our survivors are going through, and that will lead us into Season 11 eventually."

The dates for the final six episodes of the season have not been announced, but they are expected to air in early 2021. The final season will contain 24 episodes and the show will conclude in late 2022.

"The Walking Dead" will return to AMC on Oct. 4 with the Season 10 finale, titled "A Certain Doom." AMC was originally set to air the finale on April 15, but production was halted in March due to the coronavirus pandemic.

There has been a lot of hype surrounding the war with Whisperers featured in the finale, with Daryl Dixon actor Norman Reedus likening the battle to the ones featured on "Game of Thrones."

"It's going to be an epic battle," Reedus told Entertainment Weekly. "It’s like a full-on 'Game of Thrones' super war battle."

Reedus said filming for the battle scene was taxing for the actors as well as the crew.

"There were huge battle scenes until the wee hours of the morning consistently, and it looks so grand on an epic scale. Those battle scenes are going to be legendary," he added.

"The Walking Dead" Season 10, episode 16 airs Sunday, Oct. 4 at 9 p.m. EST on AMC.
