• “The Walking Dead” Season 10, episode 16 reviews are in
  • “A Certain Doom” will feature the return of Maggie Rhee and one possible death
  • “The Walking Dead” will return to AMC on Oct. 4

“The Walking Dead” Season 10 finale won't air until October, but early reviews have pointed to a fitting end that ties up all loose ends and sets the tone for future stories.

Titled “A Certain Doom,” the Season 10 finale episode, directed by executive producer Greg Nicotero, was originally set to air on April 12 but was postponed due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The finale will now air on AMC as a special episode on Oct. 4 but will be made available for streaming to subscribers of AMC Premiere starting Oct. 1.

Ahead of its October premiere, a number of media outlets were able to watch the “Walking Dead” Season 10 finale, and initial reviews lean toward a satisfying end to the series. Check out some of the highlights below.

Maggie’s return

As already revealed, Maggie Rhee (Lauren Cohan) returns in the Season 10 finale, but not much is revealed regarding where she was or what she has been up to, Forbes reported.

In an earlier interview with AMC, Cohan had revealed that her character has undergone a tremendous transformation, and viewers will be greeted with a new version of Maggie.

“There are definitely things she will have picked up on the road and there’s also the relationship with her son and how growing with him has affected her,” she said.

“It’s a nice surprise to come back to these changes, understand what motivates her return, what happened while she was out there and who’s still going to be here when she returns. We have a lot to unpack,” she continued.

Fans might get to see more of Maggie’s transformation in the next few episodes.

War with the Whisperers

The war with the Whisperers has been building for some time, and the cast and crew had previously hinted at a “Game of Thrones”-esque battle in the finale. But with the main villain, Alpha (Samantha Morton), having been killed off a few episodes back, “The Walking Dead” Season 10 finale feels anticlimatic, according to Forbes’ review of “A Certain Doom.”

A review from Business Insider echoed similar sentiments, saying the stakes are never too high for the saviors in the finale.

Father Gabriel’s redemption

Father Gabriel's (Seth Gilliam) name has ranked at the top of Season 10 finale casualty lists over the past months. But while there is no confirmation on whether or not he will be killed off, Business Insider said the priest gets an opportunity to redeem himself for locking his congregation out of his church at the start of the apocalypse.

“The Walking Dead” is known for its cliffhangers and the final scene of the episode will leave fans wanting more, early reviews teased.

“The Walking Dead” Season 10, episode 16 airs Sunday, Oct. 4 at 9 p.m. EST on AMC.
