  • The new expansion for "Vermintide 2" will be set in the Chaos Wastes
  • The expansion will not feature new enemies on day one, but the devs are open to the idea
  • The game is currently celebrating its third anniversary with in-game events and a huge Steam discount

“Warhammer: Vermintide 2” is set to receive a new major expansion pack set in the deep North of the game’s world, where the forces of Chaos stir.

“Vermintide 2” developer Fatshark made a public announcement on Twitter that the Chaos Wastes will be coming to the four-player coop game. The announcement was made as part of the celebration of the game’s third anniversary.

The Chaos Wastes is a vast and unforgiving place that holds major significance in the lore of “Warhammer Fantasy.” It is the home of many mutated creatures, daemons and the never-ending horde of Chaos worshippers.

Fatshark has not yet revealed the finer details surrounding the new expansion, however. If the expansion follows the same vein that the “Winds of Magic” DLC did, then it would be safe to assume that the Chaos Wastes will be tied to a series of maps strung together under one campaign.

The DLC may also feature new weapons for each character class and possibly reveal a new subclass for either Sienna Fuegonasus or Victor Saltzpyre. This was first teased in a blog post on Steam, where the devs teased Middenheim and the Sacred Flame of Ulric.

Unfortunately for “Warhammer” fans, Fatshark announced that there won’t be any new monsters or enemy types that will come with the Chaos Wastes, PC Gamer reported. The developers did mention, however, that they are exploring the possibility of adding more enemies in the future.

Currently, “Vermintide 2” features the Skaven’s Clan Fester and the worshippers of Nurgle as the game’s main enemy factions. The introduction of the Chaos Wastes may possibly introduce the cults of the other Chaos gods or one of the many other houses of Skaven society.

“Vermintide 2” still receives frequent updates and improvements even after three years since launch. Recent updates include a major overhaul to the game’s AI companions to help improve the single-player experience as well as the new Dwarven Engineer class for Bardin Gorrekson.

The third anniversary celebration is still ongoing, and “Warhammer: Vermintide 2” is currently on a very hefty sale promo over at Steam, which will be available until March 23.
