The rumor mill has been swirling about the status of Kevin Durant following his much-publicized incident with Golden State Warriors teammate Draymond Green.

Sources told Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports that Green's suspension from the team stemmed from him daring Durant to leave as a free agent at the end of the season, with Green reportedly telling the superstar forward: “We don’t need you. We won without you. Leave."

Durant reportedly cringed because Green seemed to be questioning Durant's desire to win.

Green reportedly also called Durant a "b----" multiple times, according to Marcus Thompson II of the Athletic.

The spat has led to some wonder if the Warriors would trade Durant before the trade deadline, particularly with his status unclear to stay with the team beyond 2019.

Would the Warriors and Durant really part ways during the NBA season?

In short, it seems like a total fantasy.

First, Durant is on a one-plus-one contract so he would have a say in where he could be traded, which presents complications for Golden State. Durant, meanwhile, has not made any public comment about wanting to leave the team.

Second, the Warriors have no interest in jeopardizing another title run.

Green is an intense player and in all likelihood, he and Durant will sort out their differences for the sake of the 2019 playoffs.

Durant's status with the Warriors at the end of the season is a different matter. The Warriors will be headed from Oakland to San Francisco and would certainly want to keep the prized free agent on the roster.

However, sources told ESPN's Stephen A. Smith that Durant will leave the Warriors in the offseason.

The Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers and New York Knicks are a few of the teams that might be among Durant's preferred destinations.
