A monkey was caught on camera punching a young girl who was feeding the animal in a zoo in China. The shocking footage, which was posted on YouTube, went viral.

The video begins with the child crouched down helping to feed the animal, which looked totally at ease. But within seconds, the monkey punched her in the face sending her flying backward. The child is seen face down after having fallen down.

The girl appears to taunt the monkey with a dangle morsel of food right before it lashed out. The China Global TV Network, which obtained the footage, also confirmed the monkey was being taunted.

It is unclear if the girl was hurt from the attack. She was with her mother when the incident took place.

Some zoos around the world allow visitors to feed animals, but most of them warn people not to tease the creatures as they might retaliate.

Monkeys, however, have been previously reported of hitting people. There have been several incidents in which a human was slapped by a monkey.

In July 2016, a video surfaced showing a street performer in China being threatened by his own monkey with a knife. The man was reportedly trying to slap the monkey but he missed and the animal in return slapped his owner, almost making him fall backward.
