  • Triple H was announced to be the new creative head of WWE
  • Fans have high expectations of Triple H after seeing his handiwork with NXT
  • All eyes now await to see what changes he will bring to WWE under his reign

Many WWE fans thought that the day Vince McMahon would willingly step down from his position as head creative of the most recognizable pro wrestling organization in the world would never come.

However, McMahon did make the announcement last Friday, July 22 to the shock of the entire pro wrestling world.

Soon after, reports came out that his son-in-law Triple H, real name Paul Levesque, would be the one to become WWE’s new head of creative, and jubilation rang across the internet wrestling community.

The main belief among both casual and hardcore pro wrestling fans is that Triple H will be able to usher in a more modern way of crafting and presenting storylines.

What fans are most excited about in his new role is the hope that he can replicate his success with WWE’s developmental brand in NXT and give it the main-roster flavor.

Triple H was the lead shot-caller for NXT during the then black-and-gold brand’s successful run in the mid-2010s, even rivaling the main-roster shows in its popularity.

Instead of creating stars from scratch, Triple H’s method of operation then was to scout the independent wrestling scene and bring them into the WWE method of performing by way of NXT.

Indie stars like Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, Riddle, Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch all became big performers on the main roster, while foreign talent like Shinsuke Nakamura, Rhea Ripley and Io Shirai also had their time to shine in NXT.

Though many of Triple H’s star pupils during the “golden era” of NXT are not with the company anymore like Adam Cole and Aleister Black, there is hope that those who are still in WWE will find themselves in meaningful storylines with him at the helm.

In the case of Banks, she might be more open to a return to WWE now that Triple H is at the top of creative and will likely cater to her demands of developing a more respectable women’s tag division.

Another superstar that fans are expecting to make a return soon because of Triple H’s new involvement is Johnny Gargano.

“The Heart and Soul of NXT” last appeared in December 2021 after his contract expired and has been on the sidelines alongside his wife Candice LeRae to raise their first child.

It may not be long before fans of Gargano get to see him back in a WWE ring after all.

Under his leadership, NXT became a full-fledged third show, instead of a purely developmental brand, that offered WWE fans a product that drew callbacks to the company’s angsty Ruthless Aggression era thanks to how the weekly show and the accompanying pay-per-views were produced.

NXT was so well-received among fans and critics alike that renowned pro wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer awarded six NXT matches with the coveted five-star rating between 2017 and 2019.

With his wealth of experience in running NXT, fans are very much convinced that Triple H will be the man to bring WWE back to a more exciting product that will have fans tune in weekly.

However, his task of cultivating compelling storylines now extends to all three shows (NXT, Raw and SmackDown) and not just one, which is a whole different beast in and of itself.

As it stands, Triple H’s new role is already drawing rave praises from behind the scenes after holding a backstage meeting ahead of the July 25 episode of Raw.

Being the main showrunner, Triple H will have the unenviable task of leading WWE into a new future that fans hope to be more progressive while also utilizing their current crop of talent to the point that everyone would want to stay and potentially lure back those they have lost.
