Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov received official suspensions Tuesday stemming from their roles in the post-fight mele at UFC 229. McGregor was given a six-month suspension by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, while Nurmagomedov received a nine-month suspension.

Nurmagomedov can potentially reduce his ban by three months by participating in a locan anti-bullying campaign. He was fined $500,000. McGregor was hit with a $50,000 fine.

The two UFC stars had been suspended indefinitely ever since they met in the octagon on Oct. 6 at Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena. Nurmagomedov submitted McGregor in the fourth round to cap off a dominant performance and retain the UFC lightweight championship, but that’s when the real drama started.

After picking up the victory, Nurmagomedov jumped into the crowd and attacked Dillon Danis, McGregor’s teammate. McGregor got into a physical altercation with Abubakar Nurmagomedov, Khabib Nurmagomedov’s cousin, inside the cage.

Neither fighter has an upcoming opponent scheduled, but it theoretically might not be too long before they fight again. Because the suspensions retroactively began on the night of UFC 229, McGregor is allowed to return on April 6. Nurmagomedov can’t fight again until July 6, as it stands now, but he might be able to fight in April if he takes part in the aforementioned anti-bullying campaign.

McGregor remains the UFC’s top star, though he hasn’t won an MMA fight since Nov. 12, 2006. Nurmagomedov is a perfect 27-0 in his MMA career.
