The doctors are nearly back. “Grey’s Anatomy” has been on hiatus since May, but fans won’t have to wait much longer until the ABC medical drama releases new episodes.

“Grey’s Anatomy” returns with the Season 16 premiere on Thursday, Sept. 26 at 8 p.m. EDT. That’s just two weeks away.

Unfortunately, it sounds like most of our longtime favorite docs won’t be in the office. Last season, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) tried to use her daughter’s health insurance to cover surgery on a little girl. The authorities found out and arrested Andrew (Giacomo Gianniotti), who took the blame before Meredith even knew they’d been caught. Still, Bailey (Chandra Wilson) knew that Andrew didn’t work alone.

“Meredith, Richard (James Pickens Jr.) and Alex (Justin Chambers) must deal with the consequences after Bailey fires them from Grey Sloan for insurance fraud,” the premiere synopsis reveals.

A trailer for Season 16 reveals that Meredith might be in more trouble. She is shown picking up trash, and someone tells her that she could be in contempt of the court if she doesn’t get back to work.

Meanwhile, Maggie (Kelly McCreary) and Jackson’s (Jesse Williams) camping trip took a turn for the worst when some serious fog set in. “After disappearing in the fog, Jackson helps a man in a dangerous situation, as his relationship with Maggie comes to a new crossroad,” the logline reveals.

Elsewhere, Teddy (Kim Raver) has moved on with Owen (Kevin McKidd), but Tom (Greg Germann) will be sticking around. “Meanwhile, Tom gets new responsibilities at the hospital that throw the doctors for a loop,” the summary adds.

Does that sound like a lot happening all at once? That’s because the episode will apparently include some time jumps. Showrunner Krista Vernoff declined to tell TVLine just how far into the future “Grey’s Anatomy” would jump.
