Ed Sheeran made an exciting announcement on Sunday, Jan. 1, 2017.

The “Thinking Out Loud” singer made sure his fans’ new year started on an exciting note. The 25-year-old artist took to social media to announce that he will be releasing new material on Friday.

In a video, Sheeran is seen holding a piece of white paper that says, “New music coming Friday!!” written on it. That means fans can expect his new song to release on Friday, Jan. 6. Towards the end of the video, the red-headed English songwriter puts the paper in his mouth before it ends.

The Grammy award winner took a break from social media and making music from December 2015 until now. According to Entertainment Weekly, he decided to take a break and take this opportunity to not be anywhere or do anything. He wanted to travel the world and explore.

Last month, Sheeran came back to social media by posting a light blue photo. He then changed his profile picture on all accounts to this light blue color. Fans are guessing that the color has something to do with the title of his album.

Sheeran’s last album was released in 2014 and is titled “x.”

Sheeran’s ardent fans have posted photos of the singer enjoying his travels in social media. In November 2016, the singer went to the hospital when Princess Beatrice of York cut open his face. She was attending a party with him and James Blunt when Blunt suggested she knight him. She did just that with a ceremonial sword but he accidentally got a gash. He required stitches.

2017 is already shaping up to be a great year for Sheeran fans! Watch this space for more news and updates on the “I See Fire” singer’s new song.
