Winter is here and “Game of Thrones” fans better start bundling up in their best Stark worthy fur pelts and preparing their blades of dragonglass, because the show’s final six episodes will officially be airing sooner rather than later.

While fans will still need to wait until 2019 for the final season of the HBO juggernaut, HBO programming president Casey Bloys has confirmed that the series will air during the first half of the year, which may be a bit of relief for fans who have been forced to wait for new episodes since Season 7 wrapped during summer 2017.

While speaking at the Television Critics Association press tour this week, Bloys stated that the show would be airing in the earlier half of the year, though he remained tight-lipped about a specific date, nor did he reveal anything about what fans can expect from the show. However, his comments about the show’s premiere tend to fall in line with earlier hints at the show returning to its roots when it came to a premiere date.

Back in January, Maisie Williams stated the show would once again air in April, similarly to when Seasons 1-6 all premiered.

“We wrap in December and we air our first episode in April [2019]. That’s a four-month turnaround for these huge episodes,” she said at the time.

Her comments were later backtracked on, and fans also know the series wrapped production earlier this month.

Since then, fans have been unsure of when exactly the series would return, and after an announcement that the show was no longer appearing at San Diego Comic-Con this past weekend, some began to wonder if it was a sign the show had been further delayed. Many believed that since an April air date would have made the show eligible for discussion at Comic-Con, and it wasn’t appearing, that it was the signal the series would end in the latter half of 2019, similarly to when Season 7 premiered.

Thankfully, that is now not the case, and fans can look forward to hopefully hearing a premiere date soon.
