Baseball is coming back and so are crowds in stadiums. Every team is scheduled to play Thursday on MLB Opening Day, and for the first time in two years, each ballpark will have fans in attendance.

The coronavirus pandemic forced Major League Baseball to completely eliminate in-person attendance for the truncated 60-game 2020 season. Tickets are available for all 15 games on the first day of the 2021 season, though most venues will be operating far below full capacity.

The first pitch of the year is expected to be thrown by Gerrit Cole when the New York Yankees host the Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday afternoon. Close to 10,000 fans are allowed to attend the contest at Yankee Stadium to see the American League favorites.

The defending champs are set to start the season in the venue with the largest Opening Day capacity. The Los Angeles Dodgers will visit the Colorado Rockies, who will allow up to 21,363 fans at Coors Field on Thursday.

Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, is set to operate at full capacity for the Texas Rangers’ first home game of the season. The Rangers’ start the season on the road Thursday against the Kansas City Royals, who will host up to 10,000 fans. Texas will allow north of 40,000 fans for the Rangers’ home opener on April 5, followed by “distanced seating” in the games afterward.

Four Opening Day matchups feature a pair of 2020 playoff teams. The Houston Astros will visit the Oakland Athletics as the top two teams in the AL West meet. The St. Louis Cardinals are scheduled to visit the Cincinnati Reds after both NL Central teams reached the postseason.
