Whitney Houston fans are reeling from news of the singer’s sudden death, which was announced on Saturday. Reuters

The dead body of singer Whitney Houston remains at the Beverly Hilton hotel almost four hours after her death as authorities continue to investigate the the cause of the singer's death.

The Associated Press is reporting that detectives are investigating how Whitney Houston died in her room on the fourth floor of the Beverly Hilton. Beverly Hills police Lt. Mark Rosen told the media that the singer was pronounced dead at 3:55 p.m. in her room.

There were no obvious signs of any criminal intent at this time, Rosen said. He told the media that police received a 911 call from hotel security alerting them about Houston at 3:43 p.m. Saturday.

Paramedics were already at the hotel because of a Grammy party. They tried to resuscitate the singer but was unsuccessful, he said.

The singer's publicist, Kristen Foster, on Saturday, said that the cause of Houston's death is unknown. Houston was to attend a pre-Grammy party of her longtime friend and mentor Clive Davis that day.
