There’s a lot to love about the new “Captain Marvel” trailer, but no one stole the spotlight quite like the cat, who even won the heart of Nick Fury. Carol Danvers’ furry friend is sure to be a fan favorite when the March movie hits theaters, but there’s more to that cat than meets the eye.

A toy line from Funko reveals, it looks like the cat will be named Goose, which seems like a “Top Gun” reference. The comic books, however, had the cat named Chewie, and if Goose is just Chewie with a new name, then she is a lot more than just a cat.

[Spoiler Alert: Comic book storylines are discussed below, and they could be potential “Captain Marvel” movie spoilers.]

In the Marvel comics, Carol believes Chewie is just a housecat. However, she eventually learns that Chewie is a Flerken. It’s an alien that looks similar to a cat but is capable of much more. Flerken can lay up to 117 eggs. In addition to their procreation abilities, their bodies can hold “pocket realities, bubbles of space and time that existed in other worlds,” according to Marvel Database. Flerken can teleport too.

They also have tentacles that come out of their nested mouths, meaning they have plenty of fangs to bite just about anything. Those defenses are both require their jaw to open, meaning that a muzzled Flerken is pretty much helpless.

It isn’t clear how much of a role Goose will have in the “Captain Marvel” movie or if she will actually be a Flerken. The origin film, set in the 1990s, will show Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) returning to Earth after some time away with the Kree and investigating her past, which she doesn’t remember. She’ll meet a young S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), who is clearly a cat person.

“Captain Marvel” hits theaters March 8.
