The alleged gunman who killed five people and then himself early Thursday in Rock Hill, South Carolina, has been identified as former NFL player Phillip Adams, according to an Associated Press report.

A sixth person who was shot and survived is being treated at a hospital. A prominent doctor who had previously treated Adams is reportedly among the victims. The alleged gunman’s parents live in Rock Hill, South Carolina, near the doctor’s home.

The doctor, his wife and two grandchildren were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the York County coroner’s office. A 38-year-old man who was working on the home was also found shot to death.

AP sources said Adams killed himself after midnight with a .45 caliber weapon.

“We have found the person we believe is responsible and we are with him at this time and that’s all I can say about the suspect,” said York County Sheriff’s Office’s spokesperson Trent Faris. “We are currently at his house and we are serving a search warrant.”

The San Francisco 49ers made Adams a seventh-round pick in the 2010 draft. The 32-year-old cornerback bounced around the league, suiting up for the 49ers, New England Patriots, Seattle Seahawks, Oakland Raiders, New York Jets and Atlanta Falcons.

He last played for an NFL team in 2015.

Adams, who was born in Rock Hill, played college football at South Carolina State.
