James Hewitt reportedly felt that Princess Diana only used him.

About 25 years ago, Anna Pasternak released the book “Princess In Love,” that covered the five-year affair of Princess Diana and James Hewitt. She admitted that she regretted writing it because of the negative impact it had on her family and reputation. She was also saddened how it caused pain to the royal family especially to Prince William and Prince Harry.

According to Pasternak in an article for Daily Mail, she was flabbergasted when Hewitt asked her for a paid interview about his friendship with Princess Diana. At the time, Hewitt and Princess Diana were in constant contact but when the People’s Princess was transforming from Sloane Princess to Hollywood star, Hewitt was discredited for talking to the press when it was actually Princess Diana’s idea that he speak out about their “friendship.”

“After the initial pressure from her to speak to try to control the narrative of our relationship, Diana very much left me on my own to cope thereafter. It was extremely difficult knowing that government officials, the Royal Family, MI5 and certain members of the Press knew of the affair,” Hewitt said.

Pasternak pointed out that she was unaware of how “manipulative” Princess Diana was. She added that Prince William and Prince Harry’s mom was obsessed with letting the world know how badly she was treated by the royal family.

Although Pasternak’s book sold 12,000 copies an hour at Heathrow and sold 500,000 copies internationally, her friends snubbed her while her mom received vitriolic letters from her friends. Some even accused her of having an affair with Hewitt. Pasternak said that she was “genuinely suicidal” at the time.

“A quarter of a century later, I look back and feel sad about it all. I definitely felt manipulated and used by Diana, whom I have such sympathy for,” Pasternak wrote.

Pasternak then went on and said that the greatest change she saw in herself was seeing Camilla Parker Bowles in a different light. She continued writing that at present she sees Camilla as the perfect consort for the future king because she understands and soothes the heir apparent. In addition, she never sought to outshine him.
